Elia Castino (°1992, IT) explores an idea of inhabiting and homemaking that extends beyond the confines of the house. He draws materials both from the rural places of his upbringing and the urban world of his daily life. Weaving conceptual and material aspects into a rhythm of manual thinking and intellectual making, he practices an inventiveness that arises from the relationship with what already exists.

His projects unfold as handmade scenarios – multimedia installations with layered, liminal identities. Through a process of fabulation, they emerge as nonlinear narratives, where the dimension of kairos – an ancient Greek idea for the time of occasions – interlaces with the cyclical flow of events. Elia lives in a stilt house on a mud island surrounded by a silver river in between Brussels, Amsterdam, and the North-Western Italian countryside.
